The joys of working in special education.

Students with special education needs require good teachers to learn and to grow. These teachers get to make a real difference in the lives of their children, connecting them to endless possibilities, as the CTP slogan reads. Working in this field is extremely rewarding in terms of the contributions that the educators make in the lives of the students they teach.

When a good teacher takes the time to help, students are often thankful for their time and care. Nothing compares to those moments when a students world expands just a little because of something that their teacher taught them. Helping a student who thinks they can’t learn to achieve things far beyond what they ever dreamed possible is the most rewarding feeling imaginable.

Special education teachers often have a tougher teaching job than most, having to work with behavioural and emotional problems that may arise in their students, in addition to following their curriculum. It is navigating this work, and helping their students grow, that enriches the lives of these teachers, making them more patient both as teachers and as people in general.
